EVENT TYPES:
The Fourth of July will come early to Columbus as Fireworks on the Water returns on July 1.
The event, which was last held in 2017, will be at the East Bank of the Stennis Lock and Dam on Wilkins-Wise Road. It is meant to honor active duty and retired members of the military.
Gates open at 5 p.m. with entertainment starting around 5:30 p.m. Live music includes Eden Brent from the Mississippi Delta; the Mississippi State University Graduate Choir, which will perform patriotic medleys; and Mississippi native Jamell Richardson will be the headliner. Richardson will perform with an eight-piece band, including brass horns, female vocalists, organ and more.
The event will also include food vendors serving everything from barbeque, burgers, chicken, tacos, pizza, homemade ice cream and snow cones. Children’s activities, including jumpers, slides and face painting, will be on hand and free for all.
The evening will conclude with a fireworks show, starting at 9 p.m., which will be visible from Columbus Lake and Aliceville Lake.
The event is being put on by Visit Columbus and the Columbus Cultural Heritage Foundation, which is partnering with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Columbus Air Force Base, the City of Columbus and Lowndes County, among others.
