December 31 – Opening Night – Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Ring in the new year in style! Since 1987, Opening Night has been the place for families and friends to enjoy the performing arts and “open” the New Year in the spirit of community. Downtown Oklahoma City is the setting for a variety bands, fireworks, and an unforgettable children’s craft and performance area. The day begins with the festive Finale 5k and all the excitement concludes with a fireworks extravaganza at midnight.
April
Annual Route 66 Pecan & Music Festival
Claremore, Oklahoma
Pecan pie-eating contest, car show, games for the kids, artisans and crafters from around the state, and the Route 66 Sock Hop.

Annual El Reno Fried Onion Burger Day Festival
El Reno, Oklahoma
The Burger Day Festival is a tribute to the fried onion hamburger, cooked daily in El Reno since the early 1900’s. Ross Davis, who owned and operated the Hamburger Inn on Route 66 in Downtown El Reno, began making fried onion hamburgers in the twenties during the Depression, when onions were cheap and meat was expensive. Today’s festival includes a giant 10-foot fried onion burger, music, a car show, and more! Attendance: 25,000.
